How Children See Life
All my life, I've heard the phrase, "out of the mouths of babes" and never quite appreciated it quite as much as when my children were little. My daughter's first grade class had to write a story about what their parents did. This project was going to be judged with the winning articles hung on the walls in the hallway so parents could view them during the spring program and Parents' Day. My daughter went into great detail about where my husband worked (maintenance) and how he fixed things and how he made money so I could buy their clothes and food.
Where the story gets interesting is when she got to the part about me. When asked what I do, she wrote, "She sleeps all day." I, of course, did not have any idea what was in the articles. Friends we knew were coming up to me during the program teasing me about being tired, sleeping, etc., while secretly smiling and not knowing what they were talking about. Once I got to where her article was hanging on the wall with a bright red star and read the article, I became so embarrassed! My husband laughed and laughed in a way that I can today 20 years later but could not that day!
